A new home for Fall...in more ways than one!

Updated: Nov 22, 2020

I have always been hopelessly devoted to the Fall...

...the chill in the air, the smell of dried leaves, the subtle shift in the light, and the changes it brings to the atmosphere in my home. I start nesting in the Fall, settling in for the impending winter. I'm attracted to all things warm, cozy, soft, snuggly. I hoard pillows, throws, candles and winter botanicals like the squirrels hoard their nuts. So I think it's fitting that I'm starting my blog in the Fall...my season of excess when I feather my nest and collect provisions for my home to sustain my soul through the long winter.

As an Interior Designer it's my mission to bring good design to everyone. I believe that our environments have a significant impact on our mental and emotional wellbeing. Consequently, it is important that we all have the ability to make our homes more functional and beautiful, not just the wealthy or elites among us. To accomplish this for my clients I spend countless hours searching for home decor, furnishings, new products and ideas that work for a range of budgets. I wanted to start this blog to share a little of what I find (because frankly my family is sick of hearing about it). I hope my little home on the blogosphere helps you find ideas and inspiration for your home.

Inspiration From Anywhere

Today I want to talk about how I find color inspiration for my home. If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen the picture above that I took during a walk in the park. I loved the colors of the leaves and wanted to remember the day. When I came home and looked at the photo I felt the need to include these colors in my home right now to make it feel new again and refreshed for the season. There are a lot of free apps out there that let you turn your photos into a color palette like this one. The one I used is called Color Tone. I tweaked the palette until I was satisfied and voila! My own personal color story.

There is a whole industry out there devoted to color theory, but unless you're a design geek like me I'm guessing you don't want to dive into the psychology of color. All the psychology you need to know is that if you love it, it's right for you! A color palette app is a fun, easy way to find color inspiration from the things you already love, and then have it with you for reference when you go shopping. Finding colors that resonate with you can be a great way to get started on designing your space when you're feeling overwhelmed and don't know where to start. The colors can come from anywhere...a favorite piece of art, the cover of a book, the interior of your favorite store, your travel photos. I find that a lot of my inspiration comes from nature. Snap some photos and try it out!
